February is recognized as Heart Month, not just for celebrating valentines day but also serving as an important time to raise awareness regarding cardiovascular disease. This month’s blog post will highlight the significance of Heart Month, provide information on how you can participate, and share educational resources to help others keep.
As heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States, it is important to recognize the key symptoms and implement lifestyle changes to maintain your health. Common heart attack symptoms include chest pain or discomfort, shortness of breath, and pain in the arms, neck, or back. High blood pressure remains the leading cause of heart disease. It is often driven by a combination of lifestyle choices—such as a high-sodium diet, inactivity, smoking, and alcohol consumption—as well as chronic conditions like obesity, diabetes, and kidney disease. Additionally, temporary factors including poor stress management, pain, dehydration, and caffeine intake can cause blood pressure to rise.
Lifestyle changes can be challenging and often require considerable amounts of time for the body and mind to make a full adjustment. Please remember to practice patience with yourself throughout this process. To better support your heart health journey, it is suggested to consider and apply adjustments, big or small, such as adopting a heart-healthy diet rich in whole, fresh foods. Additionally, engaging in regular physical activity that targets cardiovascular health proves to be highly beneficial. The more significant lifestyle adjustments typically require greater amounts of time, effort and commitment. These larger adjustments can include reducing or quitting the use of tobacco and alcohol, as well as managing stress held within the mind and body.
During Heart Month, raising awareness is a vital first step. Many wellness and medical centers share reliable articles and blog posts highlighting essential facts about heart disease and the proactive steps that can be taken for prevention and care.
